PREGNANCY UPDATE: SURVIVING THE FIRST TRIMESTER
March 3, 2022
First of all,
I wasn’t even going to share this photo that my sister took. Why? Because all I can think about is how messy our room is, just filled with preggy pop wrappers, our messy bed on the floor, and just looking like a grub. But then I stepped back and thought wow. This picture describes us so well. Georgia’s finger prints on the mirror, us in the same jammies we wore yesterday, preggy pops all over in case I feel nauseous, the bed on the floor because Georgia can climb up and down. Things are messy & chaotic. But isn’t that motherhood? A beautifully messy journey? I am now loving & appreciating this photo so much.
For those that know me, know that I don’t complain much. I’m pretty tough. But with this second pregnancy, it has been incredibly hard. Morning sickness has taken over each and every day since about 4 weeks.
I want to share a few things that have helped me get through this morning sickness and has allowed me to find joy during the hardships through the first trimester.
Having Help!
If I could encourage on thing to any mama, It would be to ask for help. I know this can be hard, but for goodness sakes you are working so hard and growing a human inside of you. Ask a close friend, your parents, in-laws, or relatives to come over and clean your house, make you dinner, help watch the kids. Sometime all we need to do is reach out to someone and simply ask for help. I have been fortunate enough to have a husband that cooks dinner almost every night and my sisters have been a huge help by coming over and bringing me food. If you are reading this and can’t think of anyone to reach out too, message me. I’ll be over in a jiffy mama!
Remember, you’re going to have a baby!
The visits to that porcelain throne, laying on the couch all day, and barely eating a thing, sometimes it’s hard to remember that you’re going to have a beautiful baby at the end of this. Remembering that this HARD season will be over soon. Power through and know there is an end to this morning sickness. And the reward is absolutely worth it!
Pray, Pray, Pray!
Every time I feel nauseous or am throwing up, I pray! I pray that the Lord would protect my baby and give me nutrients. And when I pray, I know the lord is with me and hasn’t left my side. He is holding my hand and guiding me through one of the toughest seasons of my life. So it’s felt like.
Worship Music!
I always start my day with worship music. Welcoming the presence of Jesus every morning is necessary and when we are sick and crying for his help, he hears us and loves that he gets to be there with us through this nausea. If you feel nauseous, turn on some worship music and just praise god and thank him for this baby and thank him for this morning sickness. I know that sounds silly, but really. Just worship him and allow him to there for you! He loves you dearly, mama!
Staying Hydrated & Eating Healthy !
I have done all of the things to try & stop my morning sickness. Morning sickness tea, ginger, eating crackers in bed right when I wake up, preggy pops, essential oils, snacking every hour, smoothies, medication (zofran). Ya’ll I literally had tried EVERYTHING and felt like nothing was working. One thing I did notice was if I stay hydrated and ate mostly whole food throughout the day, I wouldn’t feel as nauseous. Lot’s of things I snacked on were peaches, applesauce, avocados, canned pears, tangerines, bananas, the list goes on. And drinking as much water as you can so you can stay hydrated is super beneficial. On the days I could barely drink water, I opted for gatorade, coconut water, or pedialyte so my body could retain some electrolytes.
Anyways, as I am writing this, I am 18 weeks and 2 days, and I feel good. Thank you Jesus! If you are struggling through the first trimester, I see you and hear you and I’ve been there before.
Mama, just take one day at a time. Know this season will pass soon & god will never leave your side!
